All the way from Europe, Lotus Biscoff finally lands in Manila. Thanks to Fly Ace Corporation. Frankly, this Speculoos cookie butter spread craze got me curious in the last couple of years. But because the spreads are so evasive and hard to get our hands on, we only get to really enjoy them when they’re made available by online sellers, for so much more than they really should be sold for. I am so loving Fly Ace Corporation that they have acquired exclusive distribution of Lotus Biscoff. This means no more having to reserve with online sellers, who for the most part, hike up the price because of its growing demand.
I don’t know about you, but between Lotus Biscoff and another popular Speculoos Cookie Butter spread, I love the former more. Lotus Biscoff is just way more spreadable than the other. As I mentioned in a previously published Speculoos post, I love incorporating cookie butter spread in the scones and cookies that I bake. Lotus Biscoff’s spreadability is the best amongst the cookie butter brands. The mix of its spices come alive right from first bite. It can highly be addictive. I love it best, spoonful and straight from the jar though. Haha! 🙂
While this cookie butter thing might have been around for sometime now, it wasn’t until last week did I learn the origins of the celebrated Biscoff. Apparently, the play of name came from ‘Bis’ of ‘biscuit’ and ‘Coff’ of ‘coffee.’ 🙂
Biscoff also has always been known as “the in-flight treat.” In 2013 alone, U.S. has consumed 90 million Biscoff Cookies. Of course, a Manila local wouldn’t know the difference a biscoff cookie makes with coffee. I got to experience that last week when I sipped my brewed coffee with a biscoff cookie during the Lotus Biscoff launch at the Society Lounge in Makati City. Lotus Biscoff’s unique taste comes from the sugar’s caramelization during the baking process. A hint of cinnamon and other spices add that special twist to Lotus Biscoff.
It’s just like what we do with hot pandesal, only more “social” and first class. Dunk and bite. The crunch and pieces of caramelized cookies melting in your mouth brings such comfort as it complements the taste of sipped coffee. Can I just say, I have never enjoyed coffee more now that I drink my brewed coffee with Lotus Biscoff? Don’t just take my word for it, try it for yourself.and I bet, like me, you won’t look back. We will be sharing a Biscoff recipe on this blog soon. 🙂
