Hubby and I first noticed Manila Bake along Katipunan Avenue last month when we were driving our mother in law to her place. It is stationed right beside the newly built McDonald’s. Apparently, Manila Bake is by Serye Cafe Filipino. Serye, happens to be my to-go-to place when I want to have a helping or two of my favorite Filipino dishes.
From upfront, I thought Manila Bake was all about just pastries and other baked goodies, which should not be half bad since most of their baked goodies are must tries! Don’t take my word for it, go try one or two of their offerings and you can thank me later. 🙂
Chicken Arroz Caldo, P180
Champorado, P145
Before brushing this off as just your ordinary champorado, this “Champorado” actually uses wild, glutinous purple rice, which is called “Tapol” in our vernacular. The texture is nothing like your ordinary breakfast champorado. The “tapol” definitely made the chewy difference to this highly nutritious specialty Filipino breakfast and snack. 🙂
Wild, Glutinous Purple Rice or “Tapol”Â
It was lovely to meet the owners of Manila Bake. We did not just enjoy the food, we actually were introduced to how their products are made and other special trivia that make their food products stand out. Like “Tapol” or this wild, glutinous purple rice, for instance. This is what they use for their champorado. Just typing this out makes me want to head over Katipunan and help myself with an order of champorado.
Vigan Longganisa Bolognese, P225
I love Vigan longganisa and I will have it everyday of every week if it were not so cholesterol-laden. Imagine the rich taste of Vigan longganisa thrown in to make this bolognese pasta. Yum!
Shepherd’s Pie a la Cubana, 195
Mashed Camote and Potato blankets Manila Bake’s Shepherd’s Pie filling. Heaven!  I used to have only one place I go to for my Shepherd’s Pie craving and that is, far away  Tagaytay. Trust me when I say that Manila Bake’s Shepherd’s Pie a la Cubana is notches better than that of that nook in Tagaytay. 🙂
Manila Bake’s Tanglad Iced Tea, P80
I personally have been making Lemongrass (Tanglad) Iced Tea since 2008. We even had the grass planted in our place at some point. Tanglad Iced Tea is one refreshing drink and it is sweet that Manila Bake offers this, when most restaurants will opt for the usual powdered iced tea concoction which is by far convenient. I also love that Manila Bake uses muscovado sugar. This means you will have your Lemongrass Iced Tea as natural as it can get. 🙂
Manila Bake Sesame Roll and Whole Wheat Pandesal
Emapanda Tuna Provencale, Empanada ala Cubana and Empanada Chicken Curry @P70/ea
One empanada is filling enough for me. My favorite of the three is the Empanada ala Cubana. The hubby’s is the Chicken Curry. Should come back for these too. 🙂
Calamansi and Queso de Bola Cupcakes
Another must try are the Calamansi and Queso de Bola Cupcakes! These interesting, not-your-ordinary-cupcake-flavors are more than just special cupcake flavors. They actually taste really good.
Mango Cream Pie, P135
I fell in love with this Mango Cream Pie at first sight. I first thought it was too pretty to be devoured into. Then I did anyway, and it was a total delight! My favorite amongst Manila Bake’s pie selections. 🙂
Manilabake’s Macaroons are the best I’ve tried! A pack of 12 retails for P150 only! 🙂
Incidentally, Manila Bake has packages prepared for patrons for Christmas giveaways.
These Christmas packages are ready to give with festive tags and ribbons you can give away to your loved ones this holiday season. 🙂
Truth be told, these delicacies are not just good for this Christmas. I know, because I won’t mind receiving packages like these. 🙂
