Over the weekend, I was able to swing by Robinsons Place Antipolo for the second time and discovered interesting food places together with some old blogger friends and newfound ones.

First stop was Marison’s. I’ve been to a lot of traditional Filipino cuisine restaurants and I have to admit, I wasn’t expecting to be blown away by this typical modern-themed Pinoy diner.

Ensalada Marison, P200
Mixed greens, grapes, dried mango and roasted cashew nuts with mango cilantro dressing

Deep Fried Kesong Puti, P295
This Fried Lumpiang Kesong Puti served with pineapple sambal dip starter dish first made its television debut over at KrisTV and it was named a favorite by the celebrated talk show host. While I’m not exactly a Kris fan, I’d have to say that I trust her taste right from my first bite of this Kesong Puti edibles.

Sinaing Buntot na Tuna, P430
This deep fried tuna tail dish is served with sauce and pork cracklings on the side and is good for 2 – 3 persons. It didn’t quite register straight away that this was tuna at all when it was first served. Its texture is a lot like crispy pata, only the healthier kind. 🙂

Crispy Tripe Kare-Kare, P375
The traditional Filipino dish favorite with an interesting twist. Tender beef in peanut and cashew-based sauce topped with crispy tripe and served with house bagoong. Serves 2 – 3 persons.
If there’s anything about Kare-kare, it’s customarily eaten with bagoong, otherwise, it’s not so likely that the dish will at all be appreciated. For the record, it’s my first time to eat Kare-kare without bagoong and it’s sooo good as is! I wasn’t planning to partake of rice during the restaurant visit, but I just had to when I got myself another helping or two (or three!). The crispy tripe is crusty to perfection complementing the dish as a whole. The sauce was something else altogether as it can’t compare to any other kare-kare I’ve tried to date. It’s a class on its own, with its peanut and cashew-based sauce unique to Marison’s. This is one of the restaurant’s best-seller and is must try!

Pork Binagoongan, P310
This Lechon Kawali dish in toasted alamang garnished with eggplant and fresh green mangoes is nothing like your usual pork binagoongan. I am not much of a pork eater but this tempted me enough to partake of more than a helping.

Bicol Express Angus Beef
Ms. Marison, owner of Marison’s kidded us that we are the restaurant’s guinea pig for this particular dish since it’s still not in their menu and it is is their first time to get this served in the diner. As for us being, guinea pigs, we oh so gladly obliged! Whoever thought that Bicol Express will go so well with Angus Beef. This, along with Kare-kare, are my runaway favorites! Needless to say, I ate this with rice too! Too good not to indulge! Bicol Express Angus Beef is served with dynamite with Kesong Puti inside. Complementary and reinforced hot dish all at the same time. I pray hope this is already in the menu this weekend on our next visit! Yes, it has that addicting factor. 🙂

Sotanghon Guisado, P200
Sotanghon noodles with chicken, shrimp and vegetables

Ms. Marison, as she introduced her dishes and some bits and pieces of trivia about each well-loved Filipino dishes that she essentially revamped and gave interesting and gastronomical twist to.

Spell feast!

Empanada, P255
Papaya and pork-filled empanada deep fried to perfection serves 2 – 3 persons is also a must try!

Halo-Halo, P120
A delightful combination of sweet “halo” with Marison’s signature ice. Unlike halo-halo as we know it, Marison’s fine ice and just the right sweetness is perfect to cap a meal.

Sans Rival, P160
Just when you thought all Sans Rival are created equal, these layers of meringue topped with macadamia nuts will have your conclude otherwise. Unlike all other Sans Rival that tugs at your teeth with every bite, these layers of mouthwatering meringue, nuts and buttercream melt in your mouth without the morsel-sinks-to-your-teeth issue. Sans Rival was never a favorite kind of cake for me before I got a taste of Marison’s, mostly because of that and usually overwhelming sweetness but I’d have to say that this is something I’m going back for.

A shot with fellow bloggers during the Robinsons Antipolo Food Trip. Watch out for my next restaurant review from this foodie event. 🙂
