My Tummy is Full’s Feature today is Serye Restaurant and Cafe and their Awesome Serye Moment Promo
There are only but a few Filipino restaurants that have made it to my list and one of them has always been Serye and they are running an “Awesome Serye Moment Promo”. We used to frequent their Eastwood branch when they still had it there. Currently, their branches are in Quezon Memorial Circle and the newly renovated Santana Grove branch in Sucat, Paranaque.
We’ve been to different Filipino restaurants with Filipino food on fusion mode for their forte. While that’s interesting, something innate in our humanity is going back to basics – the origins of our well-loved Pinoy dishes. And this is what makes Serye different from your usual Filipino restaurant. They serve Filipino food sans the shortcuts!
First off, a little history on Serye
Alvin Reyes Lim, Serye Restaurant & Cafe’s owner is a 4th generation Reyes of the famous Aristocrat chain of restaurants. His great grandmother Engracia Cruz Reyes, the founder of the Aristorcat and his grandmother is Teresita Reyes a.k.a. Mama Sita. Heavy credentials for a restauranteur, right? Well, that’s not everything yet. As Alvin is born to the restaurant industry and eventually worked in their own Aristocrat franchise, he felt the need to further expand his horizon and took advantage of an opportunity to study abroad.
It was in France that Alvin was inspired by the ambiance of French bistro cafes, how it was cozy and conducive for hanging out, that he was set to bring that back home while serving great tasting Filipino cuisine.
“Sérye is an anagram of “Reyes.” Sérye also means succession and Alvin mentioned that it connotes the continuation of what they learned from their families. At the same time, it can also refer to progression and cycle which represents how they like to find ways of doing things better.

Classic Kare-Kare, P475
Serye’s Classic Kare-Kare
Excellent Filipino cuisine, Alvin sure did bring home, especially with Serye’s celebrated and recently hailed, “Manila’s Best Kare-Kare” – the winner of Food Wars Asia and featured by the Food Network. Seriously, this was not tagged to be the best for nothing. It is the best tasting Kare-Kare I’ve ever tasted. Sure there are fusions out there, but if it’s Kare-Kare, how our grandfolks have made it, the original kind, then you have no better place to go but Serye. Even if it’s just for the curiosity of it, Serye’s Kare-Kare is a must-try. I have never tasted kare-kare sauce as thick and flavorful. You can check out from the photo I uploaded on Instagram alone that vegetables remain crisp, while the meat, oxtail and tripe are as tender as it can be and its tandem bagoong – they’re just so M.F.E.O. (Made For Each Other).
“We make our Kare-Kare from scratch,” Alvin Reyes Lim revealed. “We make the peanut sauce ourselves, everything down to the roasting of the peanuts.”
Laing Con Camaron Rebosado, P350
Serye Restaurant also has Laing Con Camaron Rebosado
I’ve always loved Laing and I have to say, I never had it like that of Serye’s ever. I love how the Camaron’s texture totally complements the flavorful Filipino favorite dish with its note of sweetness from the gata (coco milk) without a hint of itch that undercooked taro leaves are notorious to give off. Prepare to enjoy your Laing like never before with Serye’s Laing Con Camaron Rebosado. 🙂
Boneless Crispy Pata
Regular (2 to 3 persons), P365-495
Medium (3 to 5 persons), P495-885
Large (5 to 7 persons), P885-1,120
Deboned pork trotters with succulent meat and crisp skin
Serye allows us to indulge in our Crispy Pata without wrestling with knuckles and bones! Aside from it being boneless, I love the fact that it remained crispy after it sat out quite a while as we made sure to take photos of each dish first before devouring.
Forgive me as I photo essay our Serye meal away…
Crispy Tuna Tail, P130/100g
Tuna tail cooked like Crispy Pata
Kinilaw na Tanigue, P325 (a la carte), P165 (pica-pica)
Chicken and Pork Adobo, P385
Grilled Tuna, P160/100g
Tender and juicy grilled tuna with dipping sauce
Binagoongang Lechon Kawali, P475
Crunchy pork belly cooked in Serye’s special shrimp paste (bagoong). Served with native vegetables.
This is another personal Serye favorite. Serye’s Binagoongang Lechon Kawali is plated differently, with the meat and vegetables on either sides. It didn’t look it, but I was deeply delighted as the pork crackled away on each bite. Crispy through and through even with its sauce generously lavished all over the meat.
Lumpiang Sili at Keso Frito, P290
Rustic white cheese and green pepper spring rolls.
Gretchen Consunji-Lim, Alvin’s wife helms Manilabake, the artisanal bakery which provides all of Sérye’s baked items such as the cakes, pies and breads. Manilabake has always been a winner, their pastry crust are baked just right, no crumbling off, perfect texture and right sweetness. I loved the calamansi pie the best.
Regular diners gets to enjoy Klub Sérye. Members are entitled to special discounts and freebies. Those who sign up will receive a 20% off e-coupon. They can register by visiting any Serye branch and requesting for the registration sheet.
