A report from Department of Science and Technology – Food and Nutrition Reasearch Institute (DOST-FNRI) says that 6 out of 10 Filipino households suffer from poor nutrition.
Under nutrition stunts mental and physical development while over nutrition leads to obesity and chronic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure. It is also revealed that survey done in 2010 as compared to 2013 remains unchanged on the number of undernourished children ages 5 to 10 years of age. Obesity has a 30% prevalence rate while chronic energy deficiency continues to afflict 10% of adults.
Proper Nutrition Begins with a Healthy Breakfast
Breakfast being the most important meal should be valued and people should be made more vigilant in making sure to consume a nutritious meal as this will help ensure that children and adults will have the energy that they need to sustain them throughout the day. Energen aims to educate and encourage families to constantly choose to start the day with a healthy breakfast.
Promote Healthy Breakfast Habits
Energen, in partnership with the Department of Health League of Registered Nutritionists and Dieticians, has been actively supporting and educating Filipino families about the importance of having a healhty breakfast through feeding programs and community-based activities. This includes a Breakfast Supplmentary Feeding Program in Minalin, Pampanga where Energen has been instrumental in improving the weight and nutrition of malnourished children.
