If you have been following me on Twitter, Instagram, Foursquare or Facebook (@jenaspacio), you will not miss postings on our visit to our favorite grill place – Tamerlane’s Kamayan. The garage turned alfresco restaurant was introduced to us by our friend Iris of PinayAds.com last year, I think. It is the one place we keep going back to when we crave for some good food and love to eat to our heart’s content.
There was this season that we would go back to Tamerlane’s every single week. This garage restaurant serves only honest to goodness grilled food on a paper plate sans utensils.
The place is clean and the walls channel a barrio/countryside atmosphere.
They do have this washing area provided for their patrons. And I cannot miss the safeguard that they have on their soap dish. I like that they are not scrimping on their customers. They could easily use one of those regular, cheap hand soaps. I can be very observant this way. I don’t normally go bare hands on my food, if I can help it. So my going back to Tamerlane’s says a lot about its cleanliness and their great food. Yes, I cannot emphasize that enough.
Speaking of their food, my favorites are the following…
Grilled Squid (Pusit)
The grilled pusit bursting with diced tomatoes and onions are always, I say ALWAYS perfectly done! Flavorful to the very core. I don’t know how they do it but even with the metal contraptions around my teeth that would otherwise doom me from devouring on what is usually served as tough and rubbery. In all the borderline bingeing I’ve done in Tamerlanes, I have not once tasted their grilled squid tough nor rubbery. No stenchy taste either.
Enseladang Mangga
I have attempted to bring my dslr every time we visit Tamerlanes. But knowing that I would be too busy eating than taking photos, I make do with my trusty TX10. Tamerlanes’s Enseladang Mangga is soooo good! I just don’t have the words for it. I just can’t go eat there without ordering this on the side. I can finish a whole plate or two on my own.
Grilled Catfish (Hito)
The look of this grilled fish is not the least appealing. But it is definitely one of our favorites. Mine and the rest of the Tamerlanes gang, if you would have it. In as much as grilled foods have considerable lesser calories than fried ones, I still have to watch it. I’m not in a hurry for my loved ones to go claim my www.equote.com term life. Eating healthy should not be taken for granted. But a once a week Tamerlanes habit should not hurt. 🙂
To give you an idea how much how affordable a Tamerlane’s meal is. Four adult tummies that are filled to the brim – we ordered 2 large grilled squid, 2 plates of enseladang mangga, 1 huge grilled catfish (hit0), 1 itlog na maalat, 2 pork barbeques, 7 orders of rice and 1 bottle of coke. We only paid P540 (approx. $13). Beat that!
You will find Tamerlane’s Ihaws Kamayan along Sumulong Extension in Antipolo City. With Jollibee as landmark, drive towards Sumulong Extension. You should not miss the garage restaurant with the sign Tamerlane’s Ihaws on your right.

Ensaladang mangga at bagoong! Yum!
The food there is really excellent and there is no problem about it but eating there is very stressful because some customers are crazy, mga walang modo. They will grab your seat the moment you stand even to wash your hands. Mahirap naman yong enjoy na enjoy ka sa pagkain. nagmamadali ka kasi may nakaabang na sa upuan mo. The owners should think of doing something to ease the food traffic. What about adding a second floor or converting that vacant lot across the eatery as an extension. Customers can park somewhere else.
Sometimes I think of going there alone than to subject my loved ones to a stressful eating.
This is just near our place, our village is along sumulong.
