Let us just say you are not a homegrown Marikenyo if you live in Marikina and do not know Jesus Panciteria. Despite its not very attractive facade, patrons still come nonetheless expectant of the same old recipes they have come to love through the years.
We’re not sure who runs Jesus Panciteria. But it does look like appearance does not matter so much more than keeping the same recipes that are soon to be tagged as heirloom ones even as years progress. Â This humble looking panciteria situated in Marikina has barely added a recipe to its list.
The same old recipes even balikabayans would come home for.
If you are to dine in Jesus Panciteria, expect everything to be sold in bulk. Â No single rice serving, no glass of softdrink. A platter (“bandehado”) of rice will be served everytime. One serving could feed 4 to 5 people. This goes the same with all the other dishes. They don’t serve filtered water as well. No iced tea. Only softdrinks and sold by the liter. No bottled waters too.
This heaping platter of Bihon Con Lechon is no more than 125 pesos and could easily feed 4 to 5 people. Expect to take out most of your orders if you are not going to eat in with much company.
Our heavy dinner for the day that practically made each of us sigh, “My tummy is full!” And we still got leftovers to take home for midnight snacking. All for no more than P330.
While we respect that Jesus Panciteria is more concerned in keeping the integrity of their recipes, we hope they realize that it will not hurt them so much to have even a subtle makeover of sorts. Their walls even have tell-tale signs of the Ondoy flooding, peeling paints and all. With this fact, you can be pretty much know for sure that only loyal patrons of Jesus Panciteria will come to dine in and be filled with their scrumptious yet msg laden recipes.
