Just look at what came in today – a package with 6 bottles of Oishi’s newest offering, Smart C+ drink. The name itself made me think that it cannot come in at a better time. With the sudden change of weather and my son having recently acquired his father’s cough and has been feverish since this morning, we really were planning to get more than our regular dose of Vitamin C.
Per practice, we do not normally take any kind of Vitamin C in tablet form. We really would rather have it naturally from the food we eat. But we thought because my husband’s cough has been extra persistent and the little guy is not exactly in his best health like he normally is. The culprit being, probably the weather, no less. The bunch of patients in my recent visit to the hospital to see an eye doctor, should attest to that. Patients from all corners were coughing. I was afraid I was not going to step out of the place uninfected.
Smart C+ in Orange Crush, Pomelo Grapefruit and Lemon Squeeze
Truth be told, I was not really expecting much from the Smart Fruit Box. I thought it was just one of your usual fruit drinks that are currently available in the market. What got me to really look closely was their claim of being all natural. Our household has always been partial to everything natural. The six 500ml bottles that were inside the Smart Fruit Box was said to contain 46 citrus fruits. Three different flavors – Pomelo Grapefruit, Orange Crush and Lemon Squeeze. I tasted the Pomelo Grapefruit first and I loved it! It was not too sweet like I find most of the fruit drinks that are available in the market are and it sure is refreshing as it claims to be.
Let us look closely at the Pomelo Grapefruit variety, which happens to be my favorite of the three. Its maker, Oishi claims (via the label) that the 500ml bottle of Smart C+ Pomelo Grapefruit juice:
- Contains 500mg of Vitamin C.
- Vitamin C equivalent to 4 large-size-whole fresh Grapefruits.
- Contains real juice.
- No preservatives added.
- No artificial color.
- No artificial sweetener.
- Does not contain high fructose corn syrup.
To be honest, I really would rather that our family gets the Vitamin C that we need straight from the food, for this matter, fruits, than to take Ascorbic Acid supplement. Aside from having read about the researchers of University of California report on the people who take 500mg of ascorbic acid having 2.5 times faster progression of hardening of the arteries than those who took no supplement, I personally believe that natural is always the best and Oishi’s Smart C+ will rightly fit in this category.
